Fun Hypnosis
I had the most fun a couple of days ago. Something a little different than the calls I usually get.
I got a call, from a really nice lady, who was really desperate. She wanted to know how quickly she could see me for hypnosis for a memory-related problem. She said that she was retired, living on Social Security, but had a really good memory, but she had done this thing.... and ..... could I help her?
She had put something away. In a place that she told herself "Boy, NOBODY will find it here!" And, sure enough, nobody could find it, not even her.
So, when was the earliest I could see her at my office? She told me how important this was. It was money that she had put away so well, and she told me that her income was pretty low, this money had a special purpose, and it would really be a bad thing if she wasn't able to find it. She was quite literally in a state of panic over this. She had been searching everywhere, for hours.
Well, my office is an hour and a half drive from my house. That's on a day when there are no traffic problems.... in other words it's rare for it to only take one and one half hours. I actually leave two and a half hours before an appointment, and usually make it a little early, or right at the time of the appointment. (Obviously, I schedule my office visits with clients back-to-back on the same days) So, on THIS day, with this poor lady who was really worked up, desperately wanting my help, this was REALLY not a good day from my standpoint, to drive into the office. It wasn't a regular office day and I had other obligations to take care of.
I often, with return hypnosis clients, or with coaching clients, have telephone sessions. I've done enough of these to know they're just as effective, so I asked her if we could do a telephone session. She said yes. Well, we had more fun!
Of course, one of the FIRST things I suggested, was that she go back in time, in her mind, to change the remark she had made. About NOBODY ever finding it HERE. I asked her to go back to that moment and change it to Nobody but HERSELF. Well, she thought that was a little silly, but I didn't. I know for a fact, that your unconscious mind is there to take your orders. (Read my blog of April 13, 2005) She had "ordered" her unconscious mind to make that a place NOBODY could find her money. We changed that, and then moved in hypnosis on to a safe, wonderful place to play. A place for her anxiety-ridden mind to relax and get refreshed.
Of course we did some more hypnosis work, calculated to get her the results she requested.
And, well before the session was expected to end, a picture came into her mind... she told me about it..... and went and looked there (another advantage of her being in her home during our session!) And she found it! She was SO relieved and thankful. We then did some initial work on what we could do in the near future to increase her income. Most people, I find, have skills that can bring in more money than they are aware of. This falls RIGHT into the kind of coaching I love to do!
Another fun day of hypnosis! Another goal reached. I just love my job!

Choose, Now!
Did you know that you get to choose how happy or how unhappy you are? You can focus on what makes you miserable or what makes you happy, and you can focus on what other people do "to" you to make you happy or unhappy, or you can focus on feeling what you want to feel.
Do you tell yourself you won't be happy until.... whatever
until
I lose weight
until
I find my perfect mate
until
I find the right job
until
I make "this" amount of money
until
I finish (school, or training, or this current project)
until
I have children
until
the children are grown
until I'm married
until I'm divorced
well, you get the picture. Abraham Lincoln said "Most people are just about as happy as they make up their minds to be."
Ok, ok, I know there are external circumstances that make it pretty hard to be happy. Severe illness in you or a loved one. A really miserable SOB for a boss. Hurricanes destroying entire cities. Yes, I get that. Still, making the best of what's going on in your life produces better results than sitting around feeling sorry for yourself. And, yes, I DO know that sometimes we need to cry it out. Or to sort it out. But most of us who aren't in situations that are THAT dire act as if we ARE in the world's worst situations.

What do you tell yourself?
If you're like me, some days you get what you want, and some days you don't. On the days when you don't, what do you do then? What kind of things do you tell yourself? (how healthy or how self-denigrating is your self-talk?) Do you say things like "well, these things happen and everyone has good days and bad days"? Or do you say things to yourself like, "well, you really screwed up this time"? Or, call yourself names and tell yourself why you deserved for this to happen, or "this is how my luck ALWAYS goes"?
You listen to, and you believe every single thing you tell yourself! So, given a choice between believing:
1. you're terrible, your luck is terrible, you deserve all terrible things, it’s too hard, you can NEVER ..{whatever} and you're a terrible screwup; or
2. you're a good and decent and valuable person, and these things happen sometimes, tomorrow’s a new day, problems are there to be solved, it’s a challenge and You're UP FOR IT! ...
Which style of self-talk do you think will give you a more positive outcome?
Sometimes when I suggest to people that they get to CHOOSE what they tell themselves, and what they believe, they respond by saying, "yeah, but all that positive thinking c--p... that's all it is, it's not the truth, and when I try to tell myself the "positive" lies, I know the stories are lies. I feel dishonest. So you WANT me to LIE to myself?"
Well, my response is this. Your mind listens to what you say and what you think. Your mind is a GOAL-SEEKING automated device. YOU get to tell it what to go after. It is deep-programmed that what you think about is what you want, and it goes after it. If you think “I’m a piece of dog-stuff” your mind thinks that’s what you want to believe, that this is your GOAL, and it sets about proving this mind-set to you. Your mind is programmed to turn that into a goal, and to achieve it. So you can set about changing what you think about, or you can keep getting the negative results you’ve been getting.
If you want to seriously have a joyful life, and that’s not what your life looks like, you’re going to need to do some serious work on the way you think, the things you tell yourself about the way the world works, and what you CHOOSE to focus your attention on, all the time.
I have to admit that I didn’t start getting positive results of any sort in my life, my life was a series of crises, was one disaster after another, until I started telling myself that I deserved better. Until I started working on my beliefs (and yes, I did some on my own, and some with hypnosis working with a hypnotherapist, and some with psychological therapy.)
And I didn’t seriously start having JOY in my life until I was willing to let go of the self-sabotaging habits and beliefs I had about how Unjoyful life is, and how undeserving I was of Joy…. Not to mention the belief I had that if you got too happy, “the Gods” would pull the rug out from under you. That’s a REAL joy killer, there! But you know what? Even THAT one can be overcome.
